Choosing the Right House Shutters

"These house shutters are beautiful!"

House shutters are definitely making a comeback. I’m willing to bet money that you saw a nice looking pair on someone else’s home and it inspired you to think about that for your own house. It’s also understandable if you simply love the way they look in general. There are several different types of them out there, though, so you should know what would look the absolute best before you go out and buy and install some. It would really be a pain to have to take them down to bring them back to the store. It’s recommended to take some photos of your house with you to the store so you can really juxtapose them with the available colors and styles.

What are the different types of shutters out there right now? You would think that the most common would be actual wood types that swing open and can be closed, but that’s usually not the case. Most homes these days have decorative shutters that are really just painted slats of wood or vinyl and nailed to the wall. They can neither be opened nor closed, and are simply there for aesthetic purposes. In my opinion, this does a very nice job of framing the windows and looks nice, but you can’t beat actual colonial style ones that function.

If you’re on the fence about whether or not to get these, just think about how important the exterior of your home is. It’s what people see. That’s why I would recommend that you stay away from discount or cheap options. Though you may save a little money in the initial buying process, you’ll end up spending more over time, especially if you plan on selling your home later on. So check out different color choices like black, white, yellow, or tan, and try to make a decision without the help of any friends. They often think they know what would look right but they don’t have the special bond with the home that you and your family do.
