Figure Out the Entire Siding Cost
"This is the lowest siding cost I've found!"
What is the actual siding cost for a modern home? That’s difficult to say, as it depends on the type of material you’re looking into or already selected. Don’t worry though, as the actual price you’ll end up paying isn’t usually very different from wood to metal to PVC or any other type of plastic. It can, however, if you have to have the highest end material the cost will be very different across the materials. Why is this the case? Well, unless you’re planning on using one of the precious metals (such as gold, silver, or platinum) as siding, it doesn’t get much fancier than aluminum. The same goes with PVC and vinyl. However, you can get very expensive wood if you want it that bad.
Because most people aren’t looking for the highest end redwood or pine, I’ll assume that you’re looking for a broad, general price point. Basically, you’ll end up paying by the hundred feet. So, for example, say you want 30 feet of cedar siding. If it’s priced at $700 per hundred feet, what will you pay? It’s like math class all over isn’t it? Don’t worry, it’s simple to calculate. You’ll pay $210 for 30 feet. That is an accurate amount of what you can expect to pay in 2009 and 2010. It will definitely be subject to change after that.
As for all the other types of options and trim styles like Norandex, Menards, Dutch, Variform, James Hardy, Gentek, Revere, Mastic, Kaycan, and Alcoa, you can negotiate. Why is this the case? Because these are specialty and brand name types that have become a commodity. They will be more expensive than generic siding, so if you want a cheap discount you’ll have to look elsewhere. However, if you are simply out to find the very best look for your home, then you might reconsider. Just remember that the outdoor exterior of a house is exactly what people see when they first arrive. It’s basically up to you whether or not you want to leave a good impression.
